Torsion Springs
At Lesjöfors Stock Spring US, we put forward an extensive range of single and double-coil torsion springs. Suitable for any application, we pride ourselves in producing all sorts of wire springs - taking in torsion springs, as well - applied in an array of functions, from small clothes pegs to hefty car tailgates.
What Are Torsion Springs?
Torsion springs work by storing mechanical energy when the coil's end gets rotated around the spring axis. This rotation allows the cylindrically wound torsion springs to exert a rotational force. Typically, the inner body diameter of single torsion springs is installed on a shaft, with a certain degree of play between the inside diameter and the shaft.
When discussing torsion springs, torque equals force times the leg length (MT=F x L.L.). Interestingly, these springs possess a linear characteristic, implying that a 10° spring deflection supplying a torque of 1Nmm will double up to 2Nmm with a deflection angle of 20°.
Best Practices for Using Torsion Springs
For optimal results, we suggest that the load should bind the torsion spring when it's applied, since the spring is most vigorous in this direction. Moreover, we highly recommend employing fixed tension ends as they can restrict shaft friction. Also, bear in mind that the closer the load is to the torsion spring leg length end, the lesser the counterforce due to the larger momentum from the distant axis attachment point. If you’re using the highest defined torque angle in your application, a total of 10,000 load cycles is the highest permissible. At 80% of this permitted torque angle, the lifespan leaps to 200,000-400,000 load sways, and at 70%, an almost infinite lifespan is achieved.
Lesjöfors Stock Spring US’s Range of Torsion Springs
Browse through each category within our wire springs interface, where you’ll be able to access single and double-ended springs. Adjust your desired wire diameter, internal diameter, and leg position (TC= ‘number of sprung coils’ and R= ‘Spring Rate, Nmm per degree’). Our default springs come with straight ends and are crafted out of stainless steel. Moreover, we design and create tailor-made torsion springs exactly to your specifications. You can choose from a double or single coil, then share your required technical details, and one of our cordial team members will reach out to discuss and hone your requirements.
Ready to Order?
Rest assured, no matter your needs, we are confident that our selection of torsion springs will meet all your requirements. If you can't find a specific item, please contact us, and we would be more than happy to assist.
