Adjustable Gas Springs
Why Choose Variable Force Gas Springs?
Gas springs are a popular option for many applications because of their reliability and compactness. Variable force gas springs, also known as adjustable gas springs, offer additional benefits due to their ability to adjust the force exerted. This feature is particularly useful when the required pressure is unknown or varies, such as building a prototype for testing or replacing a spring but not knowing what the previous spring was rated to.

Lesjöfors Stock Spring US’ Range of Adjustable Springs
Lesjöfors Stock Spring US stocks various adjustable springs with varying rod diameters, lengths, and force ranges. The V part of the code denotes adjustable springs made from steel with a powder-coated body. In contrast, the S V part of the code indicates stainless steel adjustable springs with a chrome-plated rod and body, which is ideal for marine applications and coastal environments. Installation instructions, gas spring brackets, and end-fittings are provided, and ball joints are recommended to avoid side loading and uneven wear of the piston rod and seals.
Suitable Applications for Adjustable Gas Springs
Adjustable gas springs are suitable for various settings, including machine guards, electrical control cabinets, car hoods and trunks, domestic cabinets, beds, and access hatches and doors. Lesjöfors Stock Spring US' variable force springs have long-lasting gland seals for heavy-duty applications.
Adjusting the Force of Variable Force Gas Springs
Lesjöfors Stock Spring US variable force gas springs have a pressure release valve that allows the force to be adjusted using an Allen key provided. The pressure in the cylinder will drop, reducing the force when the valve is vented using an anti-clockwise turning motion. The process can be repeated until the desired resistance and support are achieved. Depending on the range, the force can be reduced by approximately 20-50N for one second of venting.
Custom Adjustable Gas Springs
As a leading spring manufacturer on the East Coast, we also offer custom adjustable gas springs to meet specific requirements. Customers can specify the diameter, stroke, extended length, force, and fittings needed, and a team member will be in touch to discuss.
Safety Note
Adjustable gas springs should be handled carefully as they are filled with compressed nitrogen. They should be protected from damage and never opened, modified, drilled, welded, or subjected to excessive heat. Depending on the application, gas spring protection tubes are also available to provide additional protection.
