Single Torsion Springs

Discover our top-notch cylindrical wound torsion springs—designed for axial loads and capable of providing exceptional performance when used in circular movements. As the wire undergoes deflection under load, these single torsion springs are typically mounted within the inside body diameter on a shaft or similar.

Perfect Alignment for Optimal Performance

Our single torsion springs demand mounting in such a manner that ensures steady play between the inner diameter and the shaft. Applying the load so that the torque application binds the spring guarantees the most robust direction. To minimize friction against the shaft, we always recommend using fixed tension ends.

With a linear spring characteristic, these torsion springs stand out for their efficiency. For instance, a 10° turn yielding 1 Nmm of torque will result in a 2 Nmm torque at a 20° torsion.

Technical Overview

Legend:

  • T.C. = number of sprung coils
  • R = Spring Rate, Nmm per degree

Torque Guidelines

Torque is equal to force x leg length: MT= F x L.L.

Applying the load closer to the end of the leg results in less counterforce. The subsequent tables specify torque in Nmm—the force obtained on the leg 1 mm from the center.

Permitted Load and Lifespan

A maximum of 10,000 load cycles is permitted when using the maximum torque angle (T.A.). With only 80% of the permissible torque angle, the spring lifespan increases to 200,000–400,000 load oscillations. Expect an almost infinite lifespan when utilizing just 70% of the permitted torque angle.

Ends Design

The ends in our standard stock catalogue are produced with a basic straight design.
