Constant Torque Springs
Our High-Quality Constant Torque Springs
The reliable constant torque spring—or constant force spring—is made from pre-tensioned strip material, shaped into a tightly wound roll.
This spring is designed for linear movement and maintains nearly uniform force throughout its deflection. Maximum load is achieved after the spring is deflected to a length of 1.25 times its diameter, allowing it to generate constant force, irrespective of the extension length.
Fitting a Constant Torque Spring
Consistent torque springs offer versatile fitting options and can partially or fully extend. There's essentially no limit on extension speed or acceleration.
However, the spring requires lateral guidance during significant extensions to prevent sideways movement. An optimal clear space of 0.5–1.5 mm on each side is recommended.
If fitted on a bearing or conduit, the spring's own force can secure it, provided sufficient strip length remains on the bearing. We suggest using a screw or rivet to tether the spring's inner end in applications without a specific operating extension limit.
Fitting on a Bearing or Conduit
Our standard springs and slide bearings are typically supplied separately. The fitting process involves loosening the spring's outer end and winding it onto the bearing (if needed, secure it), following which the complete spring is wound onto the bearing.
If the spring goes directly onto a shaft, ensure the chosen shaft diameter allows enough play on the inner diameter, preventing the spring from sticking to the shaft.
Spring Life
The spring's lifespan is influenced by the ratio of its diameter to the material thickness (see relevant item information). The spring should be replaced once the recommended number of oscillations is reached for applications requiring numerous oscillations. Notably, the spring's lifespan is not time-dependent but predominantly influenced by the number of oscillations.
